Otis ONeal Obituary (1933

Otis ONeal, 88, of Norris City, Illinois, died Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, Illinois. He was born August 8, 1933, to Thurman and Aleen (Bryant) ONeal. He married Carla Thompson on January 1, 1983, and she survives. Otis was a United States Army veteran, and served during the Korean War. He attended Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in McLeansboro, Illinois. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and bowling. Otis was an avid sports enthusiast and the Chicago Cubs were his favorite baseball team. He was a butcher by trade in Carmi and surrounding area, and he drove a school bus for the Carmi-White County schools. Spending time with his family was his favorite pastime. Survivors include his wife Carla ONeal of Norris City; son Larry (Sandy) ONeal of Valley View, Texas; daughters Sherri (David) Gambrel of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Terri (Bret) Meredith of Carmi, Illinois, Angela Talley of Franklin, Tennessee; brothers Carl (Vada) ONeal of Evansville, Indiana, Jerry (Sandy) ONeal of Carmi, Rod (Glenda) ONeal of Norris City; sister Sue Ferraro of Zionsville, Indiana; mother-in-law Doris Thompson of Norris City; brother-in-law Ted Davis of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister-in-law Lynn Callis of Norris City. Also surviving are grandchildren Heather (Ty) Howard, Shannon (Adam) Black, Morgan Buelna, Anne (Justin) Buchanan, Kimberly (Brian) Herrell, Donnie (Kayla) Vines, Jr., Tara Morse, Ethan (Kelsey) Veatch, Journie Talley, Lucia Talley; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Otis is preceded in death by sisters Betty Boggs and Ida Davis; brother Dennis ONeal; and infant brother Harrison ONeal. Visitation and funeral are Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Visitation is at 10 am, and funeral will follow at 12 noon. Burial with military rites will be in Plainview Cemetery near New Haven, Illinois.
