Alberta Elma Smith

Alberta Elma Smith, 100, of Grayville, Illinois, died Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson, Kentucky. She was born May 10, 1917, in Bennington, Illinois, the daughter of Claude Levi McKinney and Grace Irene (Vaughn) McKinney. She married Homer Smith on October 5, 1932, and he preceded her in death on October 9, 1991.

Alberta was a homemaker and member of the First Christian Church in Grayville, and member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed square dancing and participating in a kazoo band that performed at the State Fair. She was a strong Republican.

Survivors include son Robert (Sarah) Smith of Edgewater, Florida; grandchildren Bobby Simpson, Michael Smith, Diana Cook, Ronnie Simpson, Tommy Simpson, and John Smith; numerous great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Doris Simpson; brothers Ray McKinney and Virgil McKinney.

Visitation is 5-7 pm, Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville. Funeral is 10 am, Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Cook Funeral Chapel with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.
