Edwin E. Ed Grimes Obituary (1932

Edwin E. Ed Grimes, 84, of Grayville, Illinois, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born November 10, 1932, in Wayne County, Illinois, the son of John and Mildred (Wood) Grimes. He was married to Norma (Wiseman) Michels Grimes and she survives. Ed was retired from Burgess-Norton (the worlds largest manufacturer of piston pins). In his early work career, he operated Vaught Service Station in Carmi, Illinois. He was a US Army veteran and lifetime member of the American Legion. Ed enjoyed line dancing, and for a time, taught line dancing at the Grayville Senior Citizens Center. He attended the First Christian Church in Grayville and enjoyed spending time being Pa Pa to his special grandchildren Reece and Abby Compton. Survivors include his wife Norma Michels Grimes of Grayville; sons Travis (Katie Eichenberger) Grimes of Renton, Washington, Les (Renee) Matchett of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, Jeff Michels of Anderson, South Carolina; daughter Diana Compton of Grayville; brothers Carroll (Betty) Grimes of Fairfield, Illinois, Walter (Connie) Grimes of Ina, Illinois; brother-in-law Rick Cravens of Fairfield; grandchildren April (Brad) Jude, Jeremy Grimes, Lauren Matchett, Lindsay Matchett, Reece Compton, Abby Compton; five great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephew and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; sons John Edwin Johnny Boy Grimes, Joe Matchett; brothers Charles F. Joe Grimes, William E. Book Daddy Grimes; sisters Doris Jean Gregory-Minnick, Gerry Lynn Cravens, Wanda Baker; two infants James and Blanche Grimes. Visitation is 5-7 pm, Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville. Funeral is 2 pm, Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville. Burial with military rites is in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Grayville Senior Citizens and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel.
