Marlene Horn

Marlene Phillips Horn, 65, of Norris City, Illinois, died Sunday, September 17, 2017, at her home. She was born June 29, 1952, in Eldorado, Illinois, the daughter of Alva and Ruth (Duvall) Phillips. She was married to Bob Horn on December 24, 1979, and he preceded her in death on October 7, 2007.

Marlene spent many years farming with her husband, Bob. She also worked at Airtex Products until her retirement. She enjoyed fishing with her sisters and brothers. Mamaw adored spending time with her granddaughter, Gracie Bug, and she spent many hours visiting with her daughter and sisters who were more than family members, but her best friends. She was a favorite auntie to her many nieces and nephews, and was always there to give advice and a witty comment to those she loved. She was full of life and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include daughter, Michelle Schneider of Norris City; step-daughter Sandra Smith of Byhalia, Mississippi; brothers Herschel (Kathy) Phillips of Shelbyville, Texas, Michael Phillips of Norris City; sisters Ailene (Norman) Anderson of Norris City, Doris Guinn of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Vera Zeigler of Easley, South Carolina, Barbara Brooks, Sylvia Johnson both of Norris City, Kathy Brooks of Scott, Louisiana; granddaughter Gracie Ruth Schneider; grandkitten Gus; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Charles, Wayne, Frank, Morris and Everett Phillips; sisters Mary Lou Westbrook and Aldean Smythe.

Visitation and funeral are Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi, Illinois. Visitation is at 11 am and funeral at 1 pm, with burial in Powell Cemetery in Norris City.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22022, and will also be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi.
